# Position Information

Job Description
The Teen Programs Assistant coordinates two (2) Teen-oriented programs per year and a summer internship program, working closely with the Youth and Family Programs Coordinator and under the supervision of the Education Programs Manager. Duties for the three programs include:
Coordinating, Administering, Developing and Implementing three multi-part teen programs. Supervises Adjunct Faculty and volunteers, oversees daily operations for teen programs, including preparing and managing assigned budgets and purchases, recording and submitting statistics and reports, attending departmental meetings, and maintaining studio and classroom spaces for student use. Develops content and assignments in close collaboration with program instructors, authors copy for VMFA website, publications, grant applications and reports. Works closely with Director of Audience Development to recruit applicants to programs from a diverse array of high schools and communities. Supports Education Programs team during Family Days and other large-scale events. See below for specific duties tied to each teen program under this position's purview.
Teen Terns (Paid Summer Internship Program)
* Coordinates teen schedules and develops daily tasks from selected summer projects.
* Evaluates, organizes, and archives materials from past program years.
* Oversees upcoming teen intern projects.
* At close of program, conducts exit interviews and performance evaluations, drafts and disseminates internship exit letters.
Provides oversight and feedback for teens.
Museum Leaders in Training (M.LiT)
* Develops M.Lit program with M.Lit Instructor
* Facilitates processing of M.Lit adjunct faculty instructor, develops an hourly work schedule of instructor work and planning
times for length of course, working in concert with HR staff for processing. Schedules planning meetings with Instructor for
development of course.
* Manages all program content produced by VMFA staff and M.LiT instructors and presenters.
* Partners with instructor to develop course syllabus and weekly schedule.
* Develops, launches, and processes the M.LiT application online, working closely with website developer.
* Schedules and coordinates student/parent orientation and Presentation Day: submit event function plan, oversees logistics
and draft all handouts.
* Processes course documents, including uploading to Formstack
* Supervises weekly instruction: prep studio, student homework, student/teacher tasks. Facilitates correspondence between
invited VFMA staff presenters and instructor.
* Fields any inquiries by students, parents, teachers, and program staff.
Teen Stylin'
Develops and plans program
* Contracts and works with Adjunct Faculty instructor(s)
* Drafts all program texts, builds an object inspiration list (to be evaluated by curators).
* Drafts application documents and procedures and processing applications.
* Develops and publicizes program dates.
* Identifies potential instructors/volunteers/judges.
* Manages/facilitates collaboration between Instructors and community partners.
* Oversee the application process, including marketing to statewide teachers and general public.
* Develops Teen Stylin' culminating runway event and function plan.
## Minimum Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of studio art disciplines, of art history, and of art and museum education theories and practices for teen audiences. Ability to manage, engage, and instruct teens (ages 13 - 18 years). Must able to multi-task and problem solve quickly and work effectively in a fast paced environment. Excellent organizational, conceptual, program development and project management skills required. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences from a variety of background required. Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings required. Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Professional and with databases and surveys.
## Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree preferred) in Art/Art History or equivalent field. Prior experience working with/supervising instructors, volunteers, groups, and students. Experience in developing and implementing programs and events, teaching in a classroom and/or museum setting and administering studio art and other arts educational programs for youth (ages 13-18 years old). Must be highly organized and possess strong computer skills. Prior experience in working with Formstack is highly preferred. Ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivating and a creative thinker.
