Job Details:

VCU Health System's Palliative Care Unit is seeking a full time Palliative Volunteer Coordinator. This position will provide provides a full range of user services including symptom management and psychological support for patients and families admitted to the Thomas Palliative Care Unit. Ensures adequate resources for the unit, including volunteers, bereavement support, community interaction, reference and educational materials and support of fund raising opportunities.







Responsibilities







Coordinates the Volunteer Program and Bereavement & Special Services for the Thomas Palliative Care Unit. Identifies opportunities to participate in the internal and external marketing of the palliative care program in the media, public-speaking engagements, volunteer fairs, legislative initiatives, etc.



Participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of palliative education programs in the hospital and community. Establishes and maintains a collection of educational and supportive resources for patients and families, including books, journals, pamphlets, audiovisuals and internet materials.



Supports and participates in fund-raising activities that benefit the palliative care program. Participates in the identification and writing of grant proposals for support and expansion of the palliative care program.







Qualifications







Required



Bachelor's Degree in Education, Human Services (e.g. Social Work, Psychology, etc.) or closely related field



Minimum of two (2) years of work experience with volunteer services, preferably in a health care setting



Experience with direct provision of education services and teaching



Previous supervisory work experience



Experience with diverse ethnic, socio-economic and educational populations



Preferred



Previous experience in a healthcare setting
