# Position Information

Job Description
The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is a state supervised and locally administered social services system. Providing oversight and guidance to 120 local offices across the state, VDSS delivers a wide variety of services and benefits to over 1.6 million Virginians each year. VDSS goal is to promote the well-being of our citizens through the delivery of essential services and benefits to ensure families are strengthened and individuals achieve their highest level of self-sufficiency.
This full-time curriculum developer will develop new and update existing curriculum used to train local department of social services staff and supervisors in child welfare programs. The incumbent will conduct topic specific evidence-based research, write, edit, revise and format curricula according to competency-based curriculum development guidelines. This position serves as a liaison with Family Services' Child Protective Services programs. The curriculum developer will stay abreast of program policy and practice changes affecting programs for which the developer is responsible, and they will manage production of assigned curricula, obtain copyrights, and purchase all needed training materials. Additionally, this position will manage all new and revised curricula pilot training sessions, provide evaluation analysis and make needed revisions. The incumbent works collaboratively with learning management system staff regarding final distribution of the curriculum and training course schedules, and with all program staff and committees apprising them of training needs and progress. Curriculum developer also works with Family Services Trainer Coordinator to develop standards for training of content and trainer certification procedures. The incumbent will participate in the development of new training technologies to include elearning and coaching materials.
## Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the principles and methods of curricula and training design, various instructional design methodologies and adult learning theories. Experience with on-line curriculum development a plus. Excellent skills in visual, written and verbal communication; grammar; editing and proofreading; and organizational, project and time management. Proficient in print/multimedia software including Adobe Creative Suite, learning management systems and other authoring programs/applications such as Windows and Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Demonstrated ability to work independently, as a team member and as a project lead/mentor, communicate professionally with internal and external clients; present effectively to small/large groups; work under and meet tight production deadlines, and be able to multi-task.
## Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from college with a major in social work, education or related discipline preferred. Master's degree in related area also preferred. Experience working with Child Welfare Programs particularly Child Protective Services preferred.
## Special Requirements
Employment with VDSS will be contingent upon completion of a background investigation that includes a criminal history check, employment verification, and previous supervisor/reference checks.
VDSS will record information from each new employee's Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) into the Federal E-Verify system to confirm identity and work authorization.
VDSS employees whose positions are in Band 5 and above perform in emergency roles if needed during state and federal disaster declarations. This is in accordance with the agency's emergency responsibilities. The selected candidate will be assigned to an emergency role upon hire and is expected to perform in that capacity as needed.
